Autumn Term
On Thursday 17th October, Year 5 had a fantastic Egyptian day taking part in many exciting activities.
In the morning, the children got to create their own Egyptian headdress and necklace using paint and sequins. The children were very pleased to learn how to write their own names in hieroglyphics.
In the afternoon, the children took part in a scavenger hunt to travel along the River Nile to collect the body parts of the god Osiris. They collected a clue which took them to a location along the River Nile where they collected a body part before returning the body part to base to collect their next clue. The children thoroughly enjoyed this challenge.
What a fun and exiting day was had by all.
On Thursday 28th November, Year 5 had an immersive Viking day where they came dressed up as Vikings, even the teachers!
In the morning, the children learnt about the day to day life of the Vikings where took part in many activities. First, they got to create their own rune casting kit using clay. Next, they learnt about the significance of candles during Viking times by decorating a candle holder using acrylic paint. Then, the children learnt about the importance of Viking jewellery and designed and made their own Viking brooch using string and tin foil. As well as all of this, they had the opportunity to create some Viking weaving making sure we used the warp and weft technique.
In the afternoon, the children took part in their own Viking raid. They became either a Viking or a villager. The Vikings did their best to steal the villagers’ coins and the sacred bones of St. Cuthbert whilst the villagers tried to defend and deter the Vikings away from their hiding spots. This was great fun!
