Spring Term
Spring 1
This half-term Year 5 have had great fun in PE using the apparatus and wall bars in our gymnastics lessons. The children travelled across the apparatus using different body parts and practised jumping and landing safely on a mat. We discussed the need for safety and a great time was had by all.
On the 13th of February, Year 5 held their very own poetry slam where they performed to Year 4 and three judges. They spent the previous week writing a selection of different poems using different styles and skills. They then used these skills to create their own poem for the Spoken Word Power poetry event under the theme of ‘The Way I See It’.
Spring 2
This half-term, Year 5 have had a fantastic start to their topic with a hook of an ‘eggcellent’ inventor’s day. The children had an egg that they had to look after and protect for the day, they named their egg and created it as a character. The children then had to design and create transport for their egg to travel along a pulley system without breaking using junk modelling. We then tested these to see if our pet egg survived. In the afternoon, we designed and made our very own spoons for an egg and spoon race. We had to follow a design protocol to ensure our egg was not boxed in other we were disqualified. A few children were nearly disqualified for holding their egg and cheating, it’s a good job the teachers were in a good mood and having fun that they let them race again. Only 25 pet egg survived the whole day. An ‘eggcellent’ day was had by all.
We beginning 3rd of March 2025, Year 5 went on road safety walks. We had to discuss different types of crossings and how to safely cross in different situations before venturing outside in small groups to put our knowledge into practise. The children were brilliant behaved and listened carefully at all times. They followed instructions and safely made it back to school in once piece.
