Autumn Term
Shakespeare Day
“To be or not to be? That is the question.”
On Thursday 28th November, Year 4 had a majestic day taking part in Shakespeare related activities!
We started our day by creating dioramas of a scene from Macbeth or A Midsummer’s Night Dream. The children were incredibly creative and used numerous materials and their imagination to produce fantastic pieces of work.
After, we designed and decorated our own masks by colouring and carefully embellished them with decorations and colour to resemble the masks that actors wear.
Later, we made our very own “quills” and used them to write our favourite Shakespearean quotes from his work.
We had a brilliant day celebrating Shakespeare’s work and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about him
On Thursday 7th November, Year 4 had the most amazing Carnival celebration! It was so much fun!
In geography, our new topic is “Brazil”. In Brazil, the carnival is a huge celebration with parades, music, dancing, and colourful costumes. Everyone in Brazil celebrates, and it’s one of the biggest festivals in the world! Unfortunately, we could not travel to Rio de Janeiro, so we decided to have our own carnival in school.
The adults and the children arrived in the morning, buzzing with excitement. We wore bright coloured clothing, made headdresses just like those worn in a real Brazilian Carnival. We also made traditional Brazilian lemonade (with lots of limes), brigadeiro (delicious chocolate truffles), cheesy carnival bread and decorated biscuits with bright icing and sprinkles.
In the afternoon, we prepared for our “street” carnival by learning the samba. We even had a dance off between our classes! By then, we were ready for our parade. We samba danced our way through school, trying our best not to disturb other classes.
What a fantastic and memorable day!
