Spring Term
On Monday 3rd March, Year 4 had an exciting school trip to Colchester Castle. The day was filled with fun, learning and adventure. The children behaved exceptionally well and were fully immersed throughout the day. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the excitement in the air as we got ready to explore the castle and learn about its fascinating history.
The first part of our visit was a guided tour. Our guide told us all about the castle’s history, including how its foundations were built almost 2,000 years ago by the Romans, and how it has changed over time. We all listened carefully and asked some really probing questions, making the experience even more enjoyable; we even got to see parts of the castle that have been preserved for centuries.
One of the most exciting parts of the day was when we got to explore the basement of the castle. The dark, mysterious space made everyone feel like they were stepping back in time! Our guide explained how the basement was used in the past, and we even got to see ancient artefacts. The atmosphere was a bit spooky, but that made it all the more exciting!
Throughout the trip, we were all really well behaved, showing respect for the history and the surroundings. We took part in some interactive activities, like trying on Roman helmets and shields, which was really enjoyable. The castle also had some great exhibits that we were allowed to touch and explore, making the learning experience more hands-on.
By the end of the trip, we were all tired but happy, with our minds filled with the fascinating things that we had learned. It was a day we will never forget, and we all agreed it was one of the best school trips ever!
